The Caps made a significant player announcement today—Nicklas Backstrom has re-signed for 10-year contract at $67 million.
The 22-year-old Swedish center has completed his third season in the NHL, with the Capitals. He finished the 2009-10 season with 33 goals, 68 assists, and 101 points. He ranked third in the league with assists, and further in both points and plus/minus.
This was a well-awaited announcement.
Come July 1, the Capitals have 12 more free agents to consider: Brendan Morrison, Eric Fehr, Boyd Gordon, Tomas Fleischmann, Scott Walker, Quintin Laing, Eric Belanger (forwards); Shaone Morrisonn, Milan Jurcina, Jeff Schultz, Joe Corvo (defensemen); and Jose Theodore (goaltender).
Who will the team give up and who will they re-sign?
